Most railway company archives are held either at The National Archives or close to the headquarters of the original company.
As Berkshire was not the home of any major company, we will often direct enquirers elsewhere for railway records.
We hold a few original collections, such as copies of Parliamentary deposited plans from 1833-1936, showing proposed routes. Many records of landowners and towns also include papers relating to the building of the railways.
We hold records for two specific companies: the Wantage Tramway, and shareholder details for the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway.
